This is Russia’s first game after its failure at the FIFA World Cup in
Brazil and the 24th match under Fabio Capello as its chief coach appointed
in the summer of 2012. Since then, the team has won 12 games, drawn 9
and lost 3.

Russia took on Azerbaijan four times prior to Wednesday’s game - in FIFA
World Cup qualification matches in 2010 and 2014. It won twice 2-0 in
2009 and 1-0 in 2012 in Moscow and tied the score 1-1 in 2009 and 1-1
