England coach Steve McClaren believes it takes players up to half a year
to recover from major World Cup disappointment.
After another penalty shoot-out defeat for England during this year's
World Cup finals, the devastating blow still takes a long time to filter
its way through the stars' systems, according to McClaren.
Although not naming any individuals, several World Cup performers have
appeared to be below their best form this term - not just from England
but other nations too.
"Look at all the players in the World Cup," he said. "They've
all had hangovers individually, disappointment and a loss of form.
"The players do take five or six months before they get back on form.
"I believe they've got that out of the way and are moving on.
"So I expect us, in the New Year, when our backs are against the
wall, all English and British players have the same attitude, to fight
until the end.
"I've got tremendous belief and trust in the players that we will
deliver, qualify [for Euro 2008] and get back in that arena again."
