Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed the departure of striker
Aleksandr Kerzhakov to Spanish club Sevilla.Although no official transfer
fee has been disclosed, the move is believed to be worth in the region
of five million euros.
Kerzhakov has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract, with two friendlies
between Zenit and Sevilla also making up part of the deal.
Home-grown talent Kerzhakov has been out of both form and favour since
manager Dick Advocaat's arrival in August, and found himself down the
pecking order after the signing of Turkish striker Fatih Tekke from Trabzonspor.
Kerzhakov's disappointing performances at club level forced Russia national
coach Guus Hiddink to drop the frontman for the Euro 2008 qualifier against
Macedonia in Skopje last month.
Kerzhakov has long been a target of the UEFA Cup holders, who Zenit have
faced three times over the past two years in European encounters.
And the recent arrival of Russia international striker Pavel Pogrebniak
and Argentinian playmaker Alejandro Domingues at Zenit had made 24-year-old
Kerzhakov's switch to Spain all the more likely.
