Euro 2008 round-up

By GARY PAYNE

CRISTIANO RONALDO hit two goals as Portugal cruised to a 4-0 win over Belgium.

The Manchester United winger has fired 22 goals in all competitions this season and keeps his side within touching distance of Group A leaders Poland.

Ronaldo said: 'We created lots of opportunities in the first half but in the second we showed more guts. We began the second half with drive. We're a strong side.'

Nuno Gomes broke the deadlock on 52 minutes.

Ronaldo scored from a header moments later.

Ricardo Quaresma hit No 3 before Ronaldo sealed his double. POLAND still top the group after a 5-0 hammering of basement boys AZERBAIJAN.

KAZAKHSTAN knocked SERBIA'S hopes with a shock 2-1 win.

Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka took advantage of Thierry Henry's absence to earn FRANCE a late 1-0 win in LITHUANIA.

Aston Villa striker John Carew's strike could not prevent NORWAY losing 2-1 at home to BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA in Group C.

Defending champions GREECE suffered a 4-1 home defeat to group leaders and international neighbours TURKEY.

In Group D GERMANY leapt ahead of the CZECH REPUBLIC with a 2-1 win in Prague thanks to goals from Kevin Kuranyi and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Former Liverpool and Aston Villa hitman Milan Baros pulled one back for the Czechs.

Fernando Morientes and David Villa gave SPAIN'S hopes a lift with first-half goals to sink DENMARK 2-1 in Madrid in Group F.

HOLLAND still top Group G despite being held 0-0 at home by ROMANIA.
