Russian manager Guus Hiddink thinks Russia showed their best football
in the clash with Estonia.
Russian team have stayed unbeaten in Group E in Euro-2008
qaulifying round which lets the team sit second in the group with three
points ahead of formidable Englishmen.
The author of the success is the new manager of the team, Guss Hiddink.
"I am happy with the outcome of the game but what I liked most was
the way the players followed our directions," said Hiddink to Sport
Express.
"We had a nervous start and let the opponents make a number of decent
attempts on goal."
"However, only one of them posed a real threat."
"We managed to step up the game and that was the key to succcess."
"Russia rarely manage to win in Tallin but we did it today."
"I think, it was one of the best matches of Russia under my mangement
as the players were very creative."
"The team showed good display even without seven key players in the
squad."
"So some players really made a breakthrough today."
"We expected Estonia to pay more attention to attack than they did
in Russia and the start of the game proved our expectations."
"We made silly mistakes close to our goal and one of the causes of
them was unwarranted self-confidence."
"However, we managed to take the course of the game under control
very soon."
"Aldonin had a full-fledged training ahead of the game and he was
among the substitutes only because he did not suit the scheme for the
game."
"As for our defence I can't say that we had three or four defensemen
on the field."
"Even Arshavin and Kerzhakov have to play in defence now and then."
"That's my concept of football and the players are getting used to
it."
"We are all very happy for Kerzhakov."
"He showed a very poor display in our hame-match with Estonia and
I let him know then that such a performance was not enough to be an international
player."
"Today he showed very good work."
