SYDNEY (Reuters) - Football's world governing body FIFA
will hold its 2008 annual congress in Sydney in May next year, Football
Federation Australia (FFA) announced on Friday.
Sydney will also stage this year's Asian Football Confederation awards
ceremony in November, FFA chairman Frank Lowy said in a statement.
"The FIFA Congress, which is effectively international football's
parliament, is the largest off-field football event in the world,"
Lowy said.
"The vote of confidence that FIFA has shown in Sydney to play host
to in excess of 2,500 delegates and media from FIFA's 205 member nations
at such an auspicious event is really tremendous."
