Klagenfurt unveiled its official UEFA EURO 2008T countdown
clock on Monday with the other three Austrian host cities having presented
theirs last week.
Clock unveiled
With exactly 361 days, 23 hours and 52 minutes to go until kick off, the
countdown clock in the Carinthian capital was revealed to the world on
Alter Platz, right in the heart of Klagenfurt's old town. "At events
like these you get a sense of how big an atmosphere we can expect in one
year's time," said Klagenfurt mayor Harald Scheucher. "I walk
across this square every day and I'm sure the clock won't fail to have
an impact every time I do so."
Austrian excitement
Austrian tournament director Christian Schmolzer attended the unveiling
and said: "You can see and feel that the tournament is getting very
close. Both the pressure and the anticipation are growing day by day.
We now want to start gradually building up the excitement." Schmolzer
added: "We've never had an opportunity like this! UEFA EURO 2008T
will be Austria's biggest sporting event ever. We want to give a good
account of ourselves."
