LONDON (Reuters) - FIFA and UEFA dropped plans to suspend
the Macedonian football federation on Wednesday after it met their terms.
The world and European soccer bodies had threatened the suspension in
April in response to what they saw as government attempts to overthrow
the federation's president.
In a joint statement, FIFA and UEFA said Macedonian soccer officials recognised
by them had returned to their posts.
"The enforcement of the suspension ... has been suspended from today
and Macedonian clubs are thus permitted to take part in the European club
competitions for which they are registered," the statement said.
Macedonia's national side are involved in the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.
England, Russia, Croatia, Israel, Estonia and Andorra are also in Group
E.
FIFA and UEFA said they would send a delegation to Skopje in the next
few weeks to talk with all parties involved.
