statements about the English side.

Phil Thompson was capped for the English national
side 42 times and is of course a great name in world football.
The big specialist shared his views on the coming England-Russia Euro-2008
qualifier with Sport Express.
"I can't say I know a lot about the Russian side but the results
they've achieved prove they are really strong," said Phil Thompson.
"The fight in Group E is probably the most fierce as Croatia and
Russia are not easy for England to beat and Israel showed good football
before their clash against England."
"Russia's fantastic win over Macedonia only proved that it would
be extremely difficult to get a spot in Euro-2008 final competition."
"One can't but apprehend clashes against Russia; they are led by
a high profile manager Guus Hiddink and that's one of the reasons you
should be on the alert against Russia."
"He spoke in an interview about England early the previous week and
stated that England players are not as good as they think themselves to
be."
"He said the English side are overestimated."
"I can't remember anyone stating things like these ahead of England
battles."
"His words wounded me and the side's fans not to mention the players,
the coaching staff and the football association managers."
"It can't be ruled out that Hiddink's words were not precisely quoted
of course."
"I think that England will beat Russia narrowly at home, 2:1."
"It will be an equal game which will have nothing to do with England's
clash against Israel as the English side then dominated throughout the
match."
