Zenit get to the top of Russian Premier Liga after a confident Rubin
win, the followers Spartak lose to Loko in a thriller.

Spartak and Zenit were tied atop the standings ahead of
the weekend with 43 points each. However, Spartak suffered a frustrating
defeat from Lokomotiv and let Zenit gain sole possession of the first
place.
The Saint Petersburg side inflicted a defeat upon Rubin away. Pavel Pogrebnyak's
double, and goals from Konstantin Zyryanov and Igor Denisov made it 4:0
for Zenit and the only thing the hosts managed to do was to cup the gap
to three goals 1:4.
Roman Pavlyuchenko was doing his best not to let Spartak fall behind in
the table but his hat-trick proved insufficient to snatch at least one
point from Lokomotiv. Malkhaz Asatiani was the hero of the match for Lokomotiv
as he scored the winner in the dying minutes of the injury time 4:3.
FC Moskva are only one point away from the second place and stand good
chances to take part in the title race. This weekend FC Moskva took three
points from Dinamo 4:1.
CSKA don't lose hope to fight for the highest positions: they are the
fourth after their narrow 1:0 Amkar win. Jo was the only one to put the
ball home.
Saturn are one point behind CSKA. The Moscow region side defeated Spartak
Nalchik 3:1 Saturday to prove they also contend for medals.
The other teams have more modest tasks to reach as they are fighting to
save their spots in Premier Liga.
Khimki and Luch Energia are closer to success after they beat Rostov and
Kuban respectively with the same score 1:0.
Krylya Sovetov and Tom traded goals 1:1 to stay neighbours in Premier
Liga standings.
