Basel have agreed on a plan to make sure that visitors thoroughly
enjoy the whole UEFA EURO 2008T experience, including producing a handbook
for businesses about how best to cater for visitors.
Training
The host handbook has been drafted by the Swiss government, providing
comprehensive information on issues concerning the host city and host
country to best enable businesses to cater for their guests. Workers who
will have contact with visitors during the UEFA European Championship
will receive training from the city and Swiss government in subjects such
as service or dealing with conflict. Businesses are also being advised
to accept euros as payment, and adopt a common exchange rate to the Swiss
Franc.
Germany lessons
The measures taken were based on how Germany organised the 2006 FIFA World
Cup, with the city recognising that the standard of service and welcome
visitors receive are crucial to determining a region's image. The city
council has decided to issue EURO labels to businesses, bearing the official
slogan of "Basel: More than 90 Minutes" while a second one,
"EURO 08 Expert", will be issued to firms making special efforts
for the tournament.
