Thomson lands Euro 2008 slot

SCOTLAND'S Craig Thomson has been chosen as one of the eight fourth officials for next summer's Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland. Earlier this week Thomson learned he would be taking charge of the SPL's latest Old Firm clash on 2 January.

English Premier League referee Howard Webb has been chosen by UEFA as one of 12 referees.

Mowbray given suspended ban

WEST Brom manager Tony Mowbray has been handed a suspended three-match touchline ban and fined ?3,000 fine by the FA.

Mowbray admitted a charge of improper conduct and using abusive and insulting words towards referee Nigel Miller at the end of the 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns on 6 November.

However, the former Hibs manager's exemplary record has played a big part in the punishment being suspended until the end of the 2008/09 season.

Van Nistelrooy to extend deal

REAL Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is to receive a contract extension as a reward for his outstanding scoring record.

"We will agree a contract renewal in the next few days because that's what I promised him and because that's what he deserves," said Real president Ramon Calderon.

Boyd poised for permanent move

ROSS County are aiming to sign on-loan defender Scott Boyd on a permanent deal. Boyd has been on loan from Partick Thistle for the first half of the season and County are now in talks with the First Division club in the hope of arranging a deal. Boyd could be joined by winger Adam Strachan, who was released earlier this week by Thistle.
