SCOTLAND'S Craig Thomson has been chosen as one of the eight fourth officials
for next summer's Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland. Earlier
this week Thomson learned he would be taking charge of the SPL's latest
Old Firm clash on 2 January.
English Premier League referee Howard Webb has been chosen by UEFA as
one of 12 referees.
Mowbray given suspended ban
WEST Brom manager Tony Mowbray has been handed a suspended three-match
touchline ban and fined ?3,000 fine by the FA.
Mowbray admitted a charge of improper conduct and using abusive and insulting
words towards referee Nigel Miller at the end of the 1-1 draw against
Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns on 6 November.
However, the former Hibs manager's exemplary record has played a big part
in the punishment being suspended until the end of the 2008/09 season.
Van Nistelrooy to extend deal
REAL Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is to receive a contract extension
as a reward for his outstanding scoring record.
"We will agree a contract renewal in the next few days because that's
what I promised him and because that's what he deserves," said Real
president Ramon Calderon.
Boyd poised for permanent move
ROSS County are aiming to sign on-loan defender Scott Boyd on a permanent
deal. Boyd has been on loan from Partick Thistle for the first half of
the season and County are now in talks with the First Division club in
the hope of arranging a deal. Boyd could be joined by winger Adam Strachan,
who was released earlier this week by Thistle.
