Russian champs suffered a frustrating 0-3 defeat from their
Euro-2008 fellow competitors, however the team head coach Guus Hiddink
admits he is impressed with players' display.
"We survived a dreadful loss, although we have nothing else but to
accept this defeat and find out the reasons for our failure", said
Hiddink to Sport Express.
"Our players lack experience of taking part in such important matches
against strong teams."
"We saw the difference between the team drawn from players who play
in the leading European championships and the team with players who represent
Russian Premier Liga."
"The Russian league is weaker than English and Spanish ones, but
players should give 100% regardless the level of the competitors."
"On the other hand we made a lot of silly mistakes and lack of experience
is one of the key reasons for that."
"I was eager to play against the team who also progressed into Euo-2008
finals since we need to try ourselves against leading nations."
"I got enough information after this game and frankly speaking I
am satisfied with our display."
"I still think that Russian team can play good football, but we have
many problems, for instance with the chance conversion."
"Andrei Arshavin always gives his best on the field and the team
needs his help."
"However Zenit playmaker will miss two Euro-2008 games and we needed
to watch the national team without him."
"I am hopeful all the candidates to Russia Euro-2008 squad will prove
their worth to the coaching staff in two months left before the tournament
kick-off."
