The 21-year-old defender Andreas Beck was born in Kemerovo
and was happy for the Russian national team which reached the European
championship finals.
"I hoped that Russia would squeeze into Euro-2008 play-offs and I
think it's very important for the Russian football that their national
team notched a spot at the continental showpiece", said Beck to Sport
Express.
"I am a German who was born in Russia and am proud of this fact.
After Russia knocked out England from the Euro-2008 journey, German people
respect them much."
"To my mind if they make a good start to the competition it will
add players confidence, as it happened with the German team at the home
World championship."
"I suppose that Russian team could surprise the world this summer,
especially taking into account that Guus Hiddink is an experienced manager
who led his teams to unexpected success."
"Spain is the favorite of the group, but Greece and Sweden are not
unbeatable."
"Spartak Moscow showed interest in my services and it was very pleasant
that such a well-known club want to acquire me."
"However my contract with Stuttgart will run till the year of 2010."
"I analyzed the situation and it turned out that Stuttgart were not
going to let me go and moreover I wanted to play in German championship."
