Parreira to quit South Africa, Eriksson to take over
With the World Cup due to kick off in a little over two years Bafana Bafana
look like they could be heading for a troubling few months, as it emerged
in Brazil yesterday that the current coach, Carlos Alberto Parreira is
set to quit.
However, all is not lost as it also looks like SAFA will approach current
Manchester City manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, if his contract is terminated
this summer by new club owner Thaksin Shinawatra.
SAFA have confirmed that talks were taking place on Friday evening, but
they didn't comment on the details of the talks. The talks follow reports
in the Brazilian media that the coach had already decided to quit.
Brazilian media reports have quoted Mrs Parreira as saying that a decision
has already been taken, but there is no confirmation of this, so again,
more speculation.
Parreira lead Brazil to World Cup glory in 1994 and was brought in to
help South Africa succeed on home soil in the World Cup in 2010. That
job may now pass to the former England manager if he does become available.
