Frank Vercauteren has been appointed assistant coach of
Belgium's national team.
Two-year contract
The 51-year-old will work alongside head coach Rene Vandereycken after
signing a contract keeping him in the role until the 2010 FIFA World Cup
in South Africa. Vercauteren had been without a job in football since
his dismissal as RSC Anderlecht coach on 12 November last year.
Anderlecht experience
The former winger began his love affair with the Brussels giants as a
player between 1966 and 1987. He then served as assistant coach at the
Constant Vanden Stock Stadium from 1998 to 2005, before replacing head
coach Hugo Broos in February 2005. Vandereycken and Vercauteren played
together at Anderlecht between 1983 and 1986, and were also team-mates
with the national side - the former winning 50 caps and his new assistant
63.
