The CSKA Moscow midfielder was reportedly on the verge of
joining Chelsea for £15million, but it appears an official approach
has yet to be made.
Several weeks have gone since those rumours came out and I'm still at
CSKA," said Zhirkov.
"My team is Barcelona and that is where I want to play. I have been a
Barcelona fan since I was very young and they have a great team."
The Euro 2008 star, recommended to Chelsea by former manager Guus Hiddink,
had previously claimed he would have to think hard about moving to the
Premier League if it meant missing too many matches.
"Clearly we are talking about one of the best clubs in the world,
who regularly compete at the highest level. It is very possible that I
would say yes," he said.
"But before that I would have to weigh up the pros and cons. To sit
on the bench and only get on the pitch from time to time doesn't interest
me, not even at Chelsea.
"Moreover, I have nothing to lose, given that CSKA now have a very
interesting team who will begin competing in the Champions League in the
autumn."
