Andrey Arshavin, a man whose impact at Arsenal in the second
half of last season marked him out as one of the transfer coups of the
campaign, has stated that he'd like to return to Russia and end his career
with Zenit St Petersburg, the club he left to join the Gunners in January.
"I played for Zenit for a long time and now I want to play abroad
and then return to St Petersburg to finish my career here," Arshavin
told Radio Zenit.
The Russian international, who can occupy a variety of playmaking roles,
either through the middle or on the flanks, spent nine years at Zenit
between 2000 and 2009, winning a host of trophies, including the Russian
Premier League, the Russian Cup and the UEFA Cup.
Arshavin reportedly has no plans to leave Arsenal just yet and hopes to
add to his impressive personal tally of winners' medals by helping to
bring some much needed silverware to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal's last trophy was the FA Cup in 2005, it is a dearth of honours
that continues to trouble many associated with the club.
